David (Wilson) and Amy (Beckinsale) are an unhappy couple on the verge of divorce when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, forcing them to spend the night in a remote, rundown hotel. With nothing else to do, they begin to watch the unlabeled VHS tape in the room’s VCR and quickly realize it’s no ordinary horror flick—they’re watching an actual murder take place in the very room they’re staying in. With hidden cameras capturing their every move, the couple tries to escape before they too become the victims in their own snuff film. Although Vacancy’s plot is less than original, horror fans will love the shockingly gruesome images and actually root for the main characters to escape.

Fans of Nine Inch Nails (and the cult-like followers of Trent Reznor) breathed a collective sigh of relief this week with final release of Year Zero, an album Reznor has been teasing his fans with for months. His unique guerrilla marketing campaign involved hiding URLs in tour t-shirts, leaving USB drives containing music and images behind at concerts and other odd tricks that had his fans following a trail of clues into the meaning behind his latest album. Also behind the sigh of relief is the fact that Year Zero doesn’t disappoint; it’s a gutsy, raw musical feat with some of the same powerful and politically-driven songs the band is known for, yet with a new creative direction that’s much more industrial sounding.
