In continuing on in the six-part series on financial planning, part three addresses the review of one’s portfolio—what you should expect from your financial advisor as he/she goes over it with you—and what you should have prepared and ready in the way of paperwork prior to a meeting with them.

Women who are at least 35 years old when they give birth are much more likely than younger mothers to experience a variety of major pregnancy complications, a recent study confirms.

While previous research has linked what’s known as advanced maternal age to problems like high blood pressure and diabetes during pregnancy and a higher risk of death and severe complications for babies, the current study offers fresh insight into the severe health issues faced by older mothers, said lead study author Dr. Sarka Lisonkova.

Crafting distinctive wines is nothing new to Kristina and Jim van Löben Sels who have successfully worked side by side at their family winery, Arbor Crest, for 15 years. A few years ago, to pay homage to their combined family roots, they decided to resurrect the van Löben Sels Cellars label. "Kristina and I wanted to create a new slate of wines honoring my roots in the Napa Valley and pay tribute to my uncle who was part of the original van Löben Sels Cellars in Oakville, California 40 years ago," Jim explains. "Since Kristina’s expertise is winemaking and mine is the vineyards, we wanted to take what we do best and blend our skills together to create something special. We’d like to make it something to hand down to the next generation."

Years ago, it was a family tradition to pass down the secrets to treasured recipes and spend hours in the kitchen teaching children to cook. Somewhere between the addiction to video games and the overactive schedules of parents and children, cooking lessons have been neglected.

While there are many reasons for teaching kids to cook—it’s less expensive than eating out, preserves family heritage, etc—the most important reason is that by teaching your child to cook, you're giving them a better chance to be a healthy grown-up.
