Study: Heart Disease Rates Dropping

Over the last 40 years, heart disease rates have dropped in the U.S. overall, but the changes varied widely by region, with the highest rates of the disease shifting from the Northeast to the South, researchers say.

"Heart disease‚" refers to several conditions including coronary artery disease, which can cause heart attack. Despite the decline in deaths over time, heart disease is still the leading cause of death in the U.S., killing more than 600,000 people per year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Stressed Wives May Make Husband’s Blood Pressure Rise

When older men have stressed-out wives, their own blood pressure may go up, a U.S. study suggests.

While previous research has linked stress and bad relationships to elevated blood pressure, less is known about how these challenges affect both members of a couple, and how the spouses affect one another, over time.

For the current study, researchers evaluated about 1,350 couples once in 2006 and again in 2010 to see how each person’s blood pressure might change based on shifts in their relationship satisfaction or stress levels.

The Health Benefits of Singing

Whether singing in the shower, in a choir or with a small child "sound therapy" is linked to health benefits for body and spirit. Since ancient times singing has been considered a healing tool, especially chanting, and we all know that countries have created national anthems to generate patriotism to motivate people to do things for their nation. Sounds can influence brain wave frequencies and promote well-being, specifically:

* Reduce stress and improve mood
* Lower blood pressure
