Essay: Married To A Narcissist

When you’re married to a narcissist, situations that seem normal and a reasonable way to handle things will be completely opposite to them. Their response to events and everyday life happenings will be so shocking, you’ll be left speechless. They don’t think like reasonable people and they can’t function unless they see themselves. If they can’t see themselves or see how something will ultimately benefit them, then their behavior is spastic, wild, juvenile, and overall erratic... but they’ll accuse you of being erratic. It’s rather hard to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced this first hand, but to someone co-existing with a narcissist, you know exactly what I’m describing.

Sex That Works

"The real vulnerability is not from taking off our clothes together, but in baring our hearts to one another…" ~ Wendy Strgar, "Sex that Works"?

This week marks the official launch of my new book, "Sex that Works-An Intimate Guide to Awakening Your Erotic Life." I have often said that if we could only fix one problem in our life and it was sex—we would by default, fix all of the others.  What most people don’t realize is that the shame and pain that inhibit their sexual freedom and capacity for intimate pleasure also blocks their ability to feel a wide range of other emotions.  The closer we come to living in our own erotic truth, the more our relationship to the rest of our life opens up as well.

Dealing With Trauma in the Mouth of a Lion

Wouldn’t it be great if our most difficult days came with Hollywood-happy endings?

In the movies, when faced with the worst possible situations, our heroes rise to the occasion and find strength they never knew they had. But those who experience real-life traumas are just as likely to end up questioning their faith in God, their family and themselves.

In 1986, while my husband, two children and I were hiking in Casper’s Wilderness Park in Orange County, California, a mountain lion grabbed my 5-year-old daughter.

5 Considerations Before Buying Your First Home

There are many advantages of home ownerships, but it ain’t all roses and peach n’ cream and such. Before making (probably) the biggest financial decision of your life, you should do your homework. If you don’t, your dream can very well turn into your greatest financial nightmare.

Let’s face this reality, some people out there have no business owning a home at all, ever. Most of you, however, will eventually buy a home and be perfect homeowners. You just need to do a little legwork and for some of you, address a few poor early 20’s life choices.

9 Ways Adults Can Heal from Childhood Bullying Trauma

Bullying doesn’t hurt you just when you’re a kid. In fact, the impact of childhood bullying can haunt you long past school years and well into adulthood. Recent research shows that bullying can cause social anxiety, shame, anger, and low self-esteem in adults, and as a result, individuals who were once bullied may continue making "safe" or "defensive" choices instead of choosing bolder, more beneficial options.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Marriage

There was an accident.

My wife and I, on our way home after a day’s ride on the Harley, had been left lying unconscious in the middle of the highway by a hit-and-run driver. We never knew what hit us and neither of us was expected to survive that crash. Due to a traumatic brain injury (TBI) my wife nearly died at the scene of the accident.

Our daughter was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the time and had been dispatched to the crash site only to discover upon arrival that her parents were the victims she had been sent to rescue.

Can A Selfish Marriage Lead To Better A Better Marriage?

When Jane turned 50 and was 16 years into her soul selfish journey, I asked her to marry me—the best decision of my life. She had four young adult children, and was caring for a family of three aging Yorkies. She was (and still is) a vital, loving, sexy, fascinating and adventurous woman. I was totally delighted with her compassion, sensitivity, awareness and courage. Ten years earlier she had the guts to leave her 19-year marriage and care for her children with no career to return to, even though it meant facing severe financial difficulties. She had come to realize that she couldn’t remain in a marriage so damaging to her soul.
