As women have taken on greater leadership roles in the business world, it’s paid off for both them and business.

A study by the Peterson Institute for International Economics found that firms with women in the C-suite were more profitable. Meanwhile, the number of women-owned businesses grew 45 percent from 2007 to 2016 compared to just a 9 percent growth in the number of businesses overall.

The job market is changing, and changing quickly. More and more people are moving away from the 9-5 job and into the gig economy or entrepreneurship. In fact, freelance workers make up 35 percent of the U.S. workforce, according to a study by Freelancers Union and Upwork.

This growing trend doesn't mean it's an easy career path however. If your significant other is making a big career decision, here are a few ways you can support them:

The story of Papapietro Perry Winery began in a garage with two friends, Ben Papapietro and Bruce Perry, who were bitten by the winemaking bug. Data gathered from five studies that included 993 married, heterosexual male participants found that guys who were in "traditional" marriages (the man worked while the wife stayed home and did not collect a paycheck—can this term be blown-up yet?) were more likely to deny qualified female employees opportunities for promotions, presumed that organizations with a high number of female employees operated less smoothly, and were less likely to take a job at companies with female board members.
