In the mad rush of jobs, school work, social obligations, and sports teams, quality time as a family seems harder to come by than ever before. If I want more time to just be "mom" and enjoy my kids, I need to put as much planning into it as I do every other area of our lives.

Here are some of my favorite ways to create space to simply enjoy each other and strengthen our bonds as a family unit—and summer is a great time to implement new routines and rituals without the pressure of school and strict schedules.

We are constantly bombarded by quotes and lyrics telling us that our significant other should "be our other half," "complete us," and "be the macaroni to our cheese." These all sound good and romantic but what are they really saying? We take these sayings to heart and start believing that our husband should be our lover, best friend, colleague, and family all rolled into one.

How many of you have seen a friend disappear when they start dating someone new? How many of you can think of a time you have done this yourself? Who can admit to themselves its happening right now?

Is your life balanced? What does that even mean?

Do you often say, "There are not enough hours in a day" or "I just wish I had more time"? If you have answered "yes," then this may be a sign that your life is out of balance. How do you find balance in your life?

The symptoms of being out of balance are feeling rushed, hurried and anxious as you take on the daily events. When we are out of balance, we find it difficult to enjoy life. Many times poor scheduling dictates the quality in our lives. Instead, we need to build a life that reflects our values and priorities. I do believe that it is possible to have it all in a lifetime, but not necessarily at the same time.
