My sex life has definitely hit a rut. What can I do to make it fun?

You have so many options the hard part will be choosing. The trick is you have to: (1) figure out new ideas; (2) be willing to break your sex routine and; (3) not take your sex so seriously.

Let’s look at the average couple’s bedroom sex scene. They have: very little to no talking, no changing up of the old and tired sex routine, certainly no laughing, no toys, no games, no nothing.

Magazine articles and TV doctors still tend to focus on "coping" with this midlife transition, and the identity crisis they say could lead to depression, alcoholism and divorce. But research reveals an empty nest can actually reduce stress and family conflicts.

The internet and our local bookstores are filled with information about how we can make our sex lives better. Whether its great advice about restoring the sizzle, tips for improving orgasmic intensity, or information about building sexual intimacy, there’s no shortage of advice about how we can maximize our sex. When we think about it, staying in touch with all of that information can be daunting to say the least. In fact, if we’re not careful, our sex lives can suffer from information over load, which may inadvertently take all the fun out of sex. Who wants an overtly prescriptive sex life, when sex is supposed to be a super stress relieving activity?

The bedroom is the place where you have your most intimate moments and also a place where you need to be your most comfortable and relaxed. Sometimes our personal habits can put us at odds with our spouse, interfering with sleep and relaxation, as well as intimacy.

These etiquette tips will help keep your shared space a retreat where you can relax and unwind together.

1. Compromise on the thermostat. You like the room so cool at night that you can see your breath; he spends night after night shivering.
