Spark a Smile: Send a Handwritten Letter

She went to the mailbox and it was empty. Well, except for the usual junk mail that inundates all of us. All this mail and not much substance to it. And then it happened. One day as she opened the cover of the mailbox, and looking through the pile of advertisements, a piece of mail caught her eye. It was a letter from a friend she had not heard from in a long time.

Once inside, she opened the envelope to find this wonderfully written letter from her friend of the past. It was an inspirational letter, full of details of her life and her journey. The letter ended by saying that she wanted to continue writing her on a regular basis.

How to Complain with Grace

Has a well-planned romantic dinner for two ever turned into a bad date night and an argument because your husband (or wife) seems to always find something to complain about at the restaurant? Consider giving him the benefit of the doubt that his fish really is too "fishy" or her steak is too salty, but also give your spouse a quick tutorial on how to complaining with grace.

1. If you must complain, do it with conviction. Don't start off your complaint with "Maybe it's just me, but…" or "It might be my imagination…" or "I am sorry I have to tell you this…" Simply call the server over and state the problem. "My chicken is not completely cooked, would you please ask the chef to take care of it? Thank you so much (with a big smile) is a better solution than an apology before your request.

Write Letters to Work Out Arguments

One of the best ways to get your thoughts clear in your mind regarding an argument or disagreement with your spouse is to write it down. The simple process of organizing your thoughts can do wonders to let your feelings mature into something you can talk about rationally; and let you see how your partner’s behavior may be influenced by personality needs.

Figuring out your emotions can be as simple as writing about them. Marshalling the forces of language to understand deeper problems and worries forces you to confront the hidden aspects of troubles and to see the ways in which you are hiding or obscuring the deeper truths about what is making you angry in the first place.
