How to Keep Your Marriage Balanced By Creating Distance

We are constantly bombarded by quotes and lyrics telling us that our significant other should "be our other half," "complete us," and "be the macaroni to our cheese." These all sound good and romantic but what are they really saying? We take these sayings to heart and start believing that our husband should be our lover, best friend, colleague, and family all rolled into one.

How many of you have seen a friend disappear when they start dating someone new? How many of you can think of a time you have done this yourself? Who can admit to themselves its happening right now?

Tips to Schedule “Me Time”

My friend has a stay-at-home husband and they are really having a hard time when it comes to the issue of who’s turn it should be to watch the kids when she gets home from work. The kids want their mom, but she needs some alone time. Her husband feels like he's never off duty and rationalizes that she gets to leave home every morning so she gets a break at work. She said that if they could have 100 percent alone time every once in a while then they'd be better with one another and the kids. So anyway, I know there is probably an article with this already, but it's that specific "me time" angle that she was talking about. Any suggestions I could pass along to her would be great. Thanks!

The Importance of ‘Me’ Time for Moms

Being a mom can be the hardest job in the world. As a mother, you wear many hats and tackle many responsibilities that are not always seen by the naked eye; and these can often leave you overwhelmed and numb to outside stimuli. Bottling this up can not only leave you hurting, but will do a disservice to friends, family and even your marriage.

If you’re tired and immune to emotions, your children will be especially affected by your lack of enthusiasm. Taking care of yourself is imperative. "Me" time is not a luxury that detracts from your parenting station; "me" time is a very necessary, therapeutic regrouping that will return you to your parenting station in peak condition.

5 Tips to Handle Stress as a Team During the Holidays

Having your spouse by your side, or at least nearby, should help to manage the noise and reduce stress during the holidays, right? Unfortunately it doesn’t always work out this way.

The person closest to us can be the one that irritates us the most (and vice versa). Stress in the relationship only exacerbates the holiday stressors we experience.

So, what’s the solution? Do we just close our eyes and wait for January 1 to come, when it’s all over and we can go back to "normal?"
