When people think of divorce they never fully consider the emotions that will occur if they proceed. As children we hear fairytales, all of which end with, "And they lived happily ever after." Of course, that is really the beginning of the story not the end. But the concept lives on in all of us as we contemplate what to expect from our very own marriages.

Unfortunately, marriage is not always perfect. It has its ups and downs. It is not always a 50/50 proposition. At times it may be more like a 90/10 proposition. Marriage and maintaining a relationship requires work every single day.

(REUTERS HEALTH) - In the two years after their surgery, patients who were divorced, separated or widowed were about 40 percent more likely than married people to die or need help with common activities, researchers reported in JAMA Surgery.

"I think people recognize that social determinants of health are very important, but in terms of surgery very little has been done on how these related to functional outcomes," said lead author Dr. Mark Neuman, of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

You’re broke. Again. You’d always heard that two could live as cheaply as one. Yeah, right. It’s a week away from both your next paychecks and you’re worried sick about making it until then. You can only sweet-talk the landlord for so long, the phone company couldn't care less about your woes and the cat is giving you a disgusted, "I’m supposed to use this litter?" look. Your nails are down to the cuticle, while your consumption of antacid is downright impressive.

And then there’s your marriage, your once-in-a-lifetime love experience. But you haven’t "felt the love" in quite some time, and you’re increasingly convinced they don’t either. You lie awake at night, worrying, rehashing the same scenarios over and over: the arguments, the indifference, the too-silent nights.
