Every weekday, you grab your keys and tote, usher the kids out and hop in the car. Some days, a glance in the rearview mirror reveals a piece of Pop-Tart stuck in your kid's hair or an orange juice stain on her shirt. Focus on yourself and you see that you've failed to put any makeup on your left eye.

That's mom life. It's hectic and unorganized and, sometimes, out of control. In that context, your personal sense of style takes a backseat to getting through the day's tasks. The result? You get stuck in the quicksand of a style rut—and the only lifeline nearby is a half-chewed piece of licorice that fell out of a lunchbox.

German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once said, "It's not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages." No doubt Neitzsche would be mortified to watch modern-day rom-coms where relationships between unlikely partners survive on the idea that "love will keep us together."

Love is important, yes. But love is no magic serum that turns everything to rainbows and sunshine. The real workings of great relationships are far more down-to-earth. They're built on respect and courtesy. If you're short on those things in your marriage, use the eight tips below to get back on track.

By and large, women spend a lot of time studying style trends and determining which looks do and don’t work for them. They read fashion magazines, observe other women, and ask friends for image advice and feedback. Men? Not so much. In general, guys don’t put nearly as much time and energy into figuring out what works for them. And unless a style-savvy woman in their lives takes on the role of image advisor, their "look" often comes together by happenstance.

Walk into almost any office and you'll see dress code violations—a woman wearing sheer black hose (too sexy), or a man sporting Docker khakis and a T-shirt (slacker) when everyone else is wearing a tie. Our office attire speaks volumes about us. We want to look professional, well put together, and confident. Can clothes do this for us? Yes! But they can send unwanted messages too.

Here are some examples of dressing styles and the messages they send.

Did you ever feel like your marriage had to fit in with how society said it should? Perhaps you even followed the example of marriage from your parents or your other married friends? It might seem natural to reference other examples or traditions of marriage to know how you and your spouse’s life together should be. Depending on the example, you might have decided that after a few years of marriage, you should have a house, enjoy spending all your time together, have at least two children, then a dog and have big family vacations every year.

There's good news and bad news when it comes to home security. According to the FBI, in 2017 (the most recent data available) there were a whopping 7,694,086 property crime offenses in the nation. That number may sound staggering, however, it actually shows a 2.8 percent decrease when compared to the previous year. Although we can take comfort in the steadily declining crime rates, we still need to secure our homes so we don’t end up a statistic.

Despite the dropping temperatures, are you clinging to your light jacket and peep-toe pumps? Do you dread the day when you have no choice but to bundle into a bulky jacket and snow boots? Cold-weather layers may not look or feel as chic as many women would prefer, but like it or not, winter is coming—and it’s time to make sure your closet is ready. Fortunately, you don’t have to (totally) sacrifice style in the name of staving off hypothermia.
