You Really Are What You Eat

Food can bring people together making them feel either welcome or alienated. If you want to know what someone is really like, share a meal together. Many are able to hide behind carefully chosen words or rehearsed facial gestures, but the proverb, you are what you eat, expresses a basic truth about human nature.

First, food choices contain the ingredients of core values—soul food. Second, food and mood correlate highly. Third, changing what you eat can transform habits in other activities of daily living. Therefore if you are trying to improve your marriage and all the verbiage is not working, try changing the menu!

Can Caffeinated Drinks for Men Increase Miscarriage?

Women already know they need to cut back on coffee during pregnancy, if not sooner, to lower the risk of miscarriages; but a new study suggests the men in their lives need to limit caffeine too.

Pregnant women who had more than two caffeinated drinks a day while trying to conceive had a 74 percent higher risk of miscarriage than their peers who drank less coffee, tea, soda and energy drinks, the study found.

Superfoods for Summer Plates

While there are many healthy foods out there, some of them are, well, super because they’re loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, and other nutrients that help prolong life. These "ingredients" even fight and prevent chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, and diabetes—all-important to consider even as you focus on your waistline.

AlteArte: Defining Our Business

I don’t drink much. Actually, leave it up to me and I won’t drink at all. Ask my friends from college and they’ll confirm that while they would drink beer after beer at the frat parties Freshman year, I would slyly nurse one drink the entire evening. It’s not that I’m morally opposed to alcohol, it’s just that my body rejects it as if it were a poison. And try as I might (and my friends certainly did) raising my tolerance level is simply a no-go.

Therefore, some might see it as ironic that I’m now here in Spain running a bar, but I see things quite differently. I see AlteArte as being much more than just a bar. From the time when the original owner founded it and created the name and concept, it has been more than a bar.
