How to Budget Your Family Time Wisely

Is your life balanced? What does that even mean?

Do you often say, "There are not enough hours in a day" or "I just wish I had more time"? If you have answered "yes," then this may be a sign that your life is out of balance. How do you find balance in your life?

The symptoms of being out of balance are feeling rushed, hurried and anxious as you take on the daily events. When we are out of balance, we find it difficult to enjoy life. Many times poor scheduling dictates the quality in our lives. Instead, we need to build a life that reflects our values and priorities. I do believe that it is possible to have it all in a lifetime, but not necessarily at the same time.

Too Busy For Sex?

We know how it is. These days life can be so busy, so cluttered with endless to-do lists that by the time you both get home, choke down dinner and tend to the endless haranguing of the kids, there seems to be little peace and quiet. After the kids have lulled themselves to sleep, you and your spouse finally have a chance to notice each other. But realizing there is another adult in the room is a far cry from romance. Who has the time or energy for that?

You need a new approach to time and energy management, especially when it comes to making time (and saving enough energy) for love making with your spouse.

3 Gifts of Presence for the Holidays

Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.” ~ Simone Weil

With the holiday season upon us, it is a great time to re-think your gift-giving rituals. Instead of trying to find the perfect present, find simple ways to bring your full presence to those you love—truly, the most generous thing we can offer anyone is our undivided attention. Being thoughtful and deliberate about how you spend your time and what you focus on in your most meaningful relationships is where intimate giving begins. Here are three good places to start gifting your attention:

‘Tis the Season for Excess: 7 Areas You Shouldn’t Overindulge

For most Americans, the weeks between now and New Year’s are some of the busiest of the year. When we’re not shopping, cooking or decorating, we’re socializing, eating or traveling to the next event on the calendar. Yes, we mean well when we cram our time so full of activities and obligations: We want to have fun. We want to spend time with loved ones. We want to celebrate, eat good food and look our best while doing it.

But often, we end up overdoing it. Instead of savoring seasonal cheer, we find ourselves irritable, stressed and exhausted as we fall more and more behind on our to-do lists.

7 Simple New Holiday Traditions

Don’t let the true magic of the holiday season get lost in the whirlwind and glitter of this busy time of year. Looking past the flurry of shopping days and mountains of gifts, holidays are a time of creating new memories and reflecting upon treasured moments of years gone by. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, we often take for granted the many exquisite traditions that quietly fill our holiday worlds. These traditions are very much worth tending to and passing on, for they carry within them the invaluable glue of love and family. It is our holiday traditions that are often most evocative of our heritage and the varied, rich histories passed down from prior generations. The word "tradition" is derived from the Latin verb traderere, which means to hand over, to transmit, or to give for safekeeping. And, so, it is our traditions that allow us to hold on to meaningful customs and rituals from the past that are deeply connective in nature.

A Matter of Time

In New York City, life moves at lightning speed. Business is conducted every second of the day, subways empty and fill in endless waves of motion, and people barely stop long enough to eat. In New York City, time may still be measured in seconds, minutes, hours but these units of measurement take on new definitions when applied to the NYC lifestyle –so much so that "New York Minute" has become a term to indicate the fast, hectic pace of life in the Big Apple.

As a private chef, my husband David became more than familiar with the term as he often found himself racing against the clock—to get 80 perfectly plated dishes in front of 80 elite guests
