6 Truths To Tell Your Children

A child’s sense of self is shaped by every interaction he or she has, but is shaped most powerfully by how they are loved and parented in their home. How a child sees themselves will influence every aspect of their life from their education, relationships and overall well-being. Life is about feeling good enough, competent, loved, successful and happy—and the outer world doesn’t always reflect this—so the unconditional love and acceptance at home is the catalyst for their greatness.

Sexy and Pregnant: The Unmentionable Truths of Pregnancy and Sex

Oh, the joys and worries of pregnancy! Whether you are considering having a baby or are already on your way to welcoming a little bundle of joy, it’s natural for myriad questions to arise. If you’re like most people, the thought of having a child brings alive many hopes and fears.

Bringing a baby into even the healthiest of relationships is no simple task, and partners know that life will never be the same once the baby has arrived. One prevalent fear that many couples share is a deep concern about the impact of pregnancy on sexual intimacy.

Can Your Marriage Survive the Truth of Adoption?

If you’re looking for a situation to test the strength of your marriage, I recommend an affair. An adoption might be a little too much.

Seriously, adoption brings serious stress to a marriage. Much of the anxiety comes from the unknown. Being a father to children my wife, Amy, and I created biologically, as well as to others whom we adopted, I can tell you that adoption, at least for us, was more stressful.

With the children that came from our own genes, we knew when they were coming. Once the stick turned blue, we were on a nine-month countdown.

Why You Shouldn’t Trust Sex Surveys

A recent survey showed that couples who were together for 10 years or more with multiple children have great sex at least three times per week. Of those couples, 79 percent are absolutely satisfied with their sex life and wouldn’t change a thing.

Do you believe these numbers?

I made them up—but if I hadn’t told you, would you have stopped to question their validity, or simply believed that because they were in an article they were the absolute truth?

Knowing the Truth About Yourself

We all know the familiar phrase, "The truth will set you free," and we all claim to want to know the truth both inside and outside about ourselves. However, new research shows that we really don’t want to know someone else’s truth if it differs from ours. We seek out information, which validates our beliefs without the opposing views. When we do familiarize ourselves with the opposition, it is for the purpose of refutation!

The analysis reported by the American Psychological Association and led by researchers at the University of Illinois and the University of Florida, included data from 91 studies involving nearly 8,000 participants.
