How to Prepare for Daughter Care

A recent report from the medical journal JAMA Neurology highlights the fact that women represent nearly two-thirds of all elder care and says, "the best long-term care insurance in this country is a conscientious daughter." That may be good news for older Americans who are lucky to have an adult child caring for them, but could spell bad news for their daughters. "Daughter care," as some have coined it, can be risky business for a woman.

Are Wives Prepared for Life Alone As They Age?

The trends are clear: as women age odds are they will be living alone, largely because of either divorce or widowhood.

What may be less clear for many of them is whether they are prepared for that life alone—both emotionally and financially. Although both men and women could live three or four decades in retirement, it’s more likely for women because they have longer life expectancies. A caveat is they often have less in savings, and smaller or no pensions so their longevity can work for them and against them.

Why Women Give Each Other a Bad Name

Ladies, ladies, ladies. I love you, my fellow Goddesses. Yes, I do and this is not a women-bashing article. Not even. Everything I write about is with love and compassion; with discernment and without critical judgment. But, I’ve been a women all my life, and at 55 years of age I must admit, at times I just don’t get my fellow gender.

Here’s a little of what drives me cray-cray and what I believe gives us a bad name—besides the Venus and Mars comparison (which I thoroughly enjoyed):

3 Reasons Why Women Cheat

Getting laid by a stranger has never been easier thanks to technology. This is equally true for singles as well as married individuals, thanks to a variety of websites and apps that cater to users looking for easy, casual sex.

Both men and women cheat because something is missing in their lives. The need to fill in that missing piece is what leads to affairs and often divorce.

Today, men and women stray at similar rates according to a study by the University of Indiana, but for different reasons.

Why Women Need Their Own Financial Identity

It’s hard to believe that only some 50-odd years ago, a woman’s financial identity was tied explicitly to someone else—her husband, her father or some other male in her life. In the modern age, women make up nearly half of the American workforce. In addition, the average age of marriage is now in the late 20s—and unfortunately, the divorce rate remains high.

In other words, women are in financial control of their destiny. Even if they’re married, most women are still financial earners and maintain their own financial identity. With that in mind, here are critical financial items that every woman should know regardless of their stage of life or marital status.

7 Ways You Can Find Adventure in Your Own Backyard

Each morning you struggle to wake up and try not to become too frazzled while wrangling the kids and getting ready for work. Eight or nine (or more) hours later, you come home, check as many chores as possible off your to-do list, and collapse into bed. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Even your hobbies and downtime are part of the same old routine: book club on Tuesday nights, TV on Thursday nights, dinner with your girlfriends every other Friday.

So what’s wrong with that? Well, a recent CNN article suggests that trying out new hobbies and discovering new interests might stave off memory loss.

Can Submission Be Sexy?

Now that the dust has settled on the popular movie Fifty Shades of Grey, the time might be ripe for some honest introspection, in terms of how we perceive some of the issues raised by the film. Why, for example, are we so riveted by the idea of sexual submission?

Although we may each experience sex differently, what remains common, perhaps, is the understanding that a sexual relationship involves at some level the surrendering of personal power. Inherent in our ability to experience sexual pleasure is the reality of lowered barriers and a certain sense of vulnerability, no matter what role we think we may be playing in the sex act.
