The effort required really isn’t very much. It’s the energy that matches what you want that has to be exact.

If I bring you love, if I bring you peace, if I’m grateful for what you’ve done and are doing, will that help? If I’m empathetic to your concerns and opinions, if I value what you do, what you say, and who you are, won’t that also help? If I keep myself solid emotionally, while being patient with how you process and able to give you what you need, that also helps.

When you’re married to a narcissist, situations that seem normal and a reasonable way to handle things will be completely opposite to them. Their response to events and everyday life happenings will be so shocking, you’ll be left speechless. They don’t think like reasonable people and they can’t function unless they see themselves. If they can’t see themselves or see how something will ultimately benefit them, then their behavior is spastic, wild, juvenile, and overall erratic... but they’ll accuse you of being erratic. It’s rather hard to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced this first hand, but to someone co-existing with a narcissist, you know exactly what I’m describing.

I wasn't a little girl who thought about marriage. My Barbie doll was a writer and nature lover who lived alone in the trees; miraculously free of mosquito bites. My Donny Osmond doll spied, took pictures, and wrote articles about how beautiful it was to see my Barbie live naked and free and filled with love for all living creatures. A little creepy? Sure, but I liked having an audience without having to figure out how, exactly, to fit him into the picture.
