Coping with Male Sexual Failure

With all the hype surrounding sex and sexual relationships, there can be a tremendous feeling of pressure, especially for men. Men, in fact, appear to experience sexual performance-anxiety in far greater proportions than women. In spite of society's seeming openness to sexuality and women's sexual freedom, there is still a very traditional perspective that it's a man's duty and responsibility to always rock the sexual boat. In other words, men must have the equipment, skills and stamina to throw it down in the bedroom and when they don't, they are viewed as sexual and relationship failures.

5 Common Ways Parents Mess Up Their Children

There are several ways that I have noticed parents today are hindering the successful development of their children. Here are 5 that are most harmful.

1. Parents are setting kids up to fail in college. The best predictors for success in college are having high levels of grit, hope, optimism, and self-efficacy.  Too many parents rescue their kids, solve their problems, and take responsibility for their boredom, happiness, and motivation; leaving them weak and unable to handle the normal ups and downs of life.

A New Way To Look At Resolutions: Evolve

You’re just over the first few weeks of the New Year. So, how has the "new you" been shaping up?

Most commonly, many have resolved to lose weight or exercise more. Sometimes we pledge to give up a chronic behavior that we know is not healthy, such as drinking alcohol, smoking, or over spending. The statistics vary, but no matter which reference you choose, the success rate of resolutions is dismal; ranging from approximately 8-45%. That means over half and probably closer to 90% of those who make a resolution will fail.

First Attempt in Learning: What It Really Means to Fail

When I was 18, my father tried to get me into the plumber’s union. He was trying to help because I had no direction and no mechanical skills. He reckoned that having a trade would be a good thing for my career and figured I’d learn what I needed to know along the way.

But the plumber’s union wasn’t the first try at getting me to become an adult. My girlfriend’s father had tried getting me into the carpenter’s union, and my father had previously attempted to get me into the electrician’s union.

Teaching Kids To Try

As parents, you and your spouse must realize the power you have in the eyes of your children. It is ever so important that each of you realize that your kids do not know the history of success or pain you and your spouse have experienced over the course of your life and marriage. Your children love the two of you in all of your humanness, and it is up to you to help them feel empowered and to help them realize risks. You should encourage them to pursue the experiences and adventures they feel are worth taking when looking at the options and safety considerations, while being willing to pick up the pieces when they fall.

7 Signs of a Failing Marriage

Unless someone is completely vicious, no one enters a marriage with the intention of destroying it, yet the divorce rate remains high and couples, even if they don’t divorce, are often unhappy and in loveless marriages. By being aware of what you may be doing in your marriage that could eventually destroy it, you can create a successful and flourishing relationship. Here are seven signs to look out for:

15 Practical Tips to Lose Weight and Get in Shape This Summer

The warm weather of summer is here, but you’re less thrilled about squeezing into a swimsuit (or even a pair of "mom" shorts!). As a woman of a certain age—say, somewhere between late 30s and early 60s—your bikini has had its last poolside outing. For the most part you’re fine with that—hey, Christie Brinkley and Jane Seymour are freaks of nature anyway!—but still, you’d love to drop a good 10 or 20 (or 30) pounds. Is that too much to ask?

Of course not. Not only can you get in shape this summer, you can look, and feel sexier than you ever thought possible. The great thing about being "middle aged"—whatever that means—is that you’re young enough to look fabulous yet old enough not to care that you don’t look perfect.
