Get Your 80/20 in Gear and Have a Blast!

There’s a fascinating concept in economics called "Pareto’s Law," or the "80/20 Rule." In a nutshell, a 19th century economist, Vilfredo Pareto, noticed that 20% of the people owned 80% of the land, and similarly that 20% of his peapods produced 80% of his peas. Much later, Joe Juran, looking to improve factory production during WWII, realized that 20% of the factories were responsible for 80% of all defective parts, and vice-versa: thus the beginning of the quality movement in U.S. business.

What could the "80/20 Rule" possibly have to do with you? Simply put, most of us spend 80% of our time on things that really don’t matter all that much to us, and only 20% of our time on the things that really matter. Huh...

Disrupt Your 9 Hungers with One Simple Mindfulness Tip

Mindfulness is the No. 1 trend that will shape food in 2018, according to an article from Forbes. Being mindful at mealtimes and throughout the day is more than paying attention to the food we choose, prepare, and eat. It’s learning to recognize hunger in its various forms. It is being able to eat without being impacted by external influences and noticing—and respecting—fullness. It’s eating for enjoyment while nourishing our bodies.

Working for a boss who you butt heads with is never pleasant. In fact, surveys consistently show a top reason people leave their jobs is because of a bad relationship with their boss. So it won’t surprise you that many of my clients come to me because they want to leave a boss they can’t bear to work with anymore, even though the work may be just what they want. Below are three actions anyone can take to shift their perspective and find new solutions to workplace strife.

Paving A Path to Happiness and Peace of Mind

Peace, joy, and gratitude—feelings we all wish for, but ones that can be hard to come by in our stressful world. When we're bombarded with our own negative thoughts, it can make us feel as though we’re in a self-made prison of blame and judgments, making it feel impossible to relish the good in our lives. Happiness has a biological basis, and research shows that we can take steps toward creating a positive and healthy mental space, despite the stresses of living in a demanding, technology-driven existence.

Strengthen Your Marriage with Mindfulness

Whether you and your partner are just starting out and want to connect more deeply, or you’ve been together for years and want to rekindle that connection, mindfulness is a wonderful tool to support your relationship goals. Here are three simple tips:

1. Practice gratitude in your relationship: Turn your mindful attention towards all you are grateful for about your partner. Here are some prompts to get you started:

How to Teach Your Kids Healthy Mental Habits

You are your kids’ most impactful teacher. You teach them how they should brush their teeth, put on their clothes, ride a bike, tie their shoes, carry on a conversation and wash their hands. Your teaching is accomplished through explicit, intentional efforts and also through modeling by example. But how are you modeling habits and lifestyle choices that send a message about mental health? Here are some ways to model mental health habits and show your child that everyone has their own path toward a healthy mind.

Mindful Relationships and Meditation

You can use this meditation to increase your ability to stay present and be mindful during relationship-based interactions. It is like weight lifting for your mind and heart.

In a relationship, any interaction is really one of the heart. Whether you define the heart as the organ that pumps your blood, the emotional energy center in the center of your chest, or the complicated chemical symphony coursing through your body, love is truly at the center of the matter.

In this meditation, we will embrace the heart and invite it to feel emotionally safe and nurtured. When the heart feels safe, we lessen the likelihood of distractions of an emotional nature that may take us outside of our focused presence. In Greek mythology, the goddess Aphrodite was known to govern love, pleasure, relationships, matters of the heart, and romantic unions. We will invite her archetype to school us in how to have mindful, harmonious, joyous relationships of all kinds.
